My Course Reflection
As I reflect on my journey through this educational technology course, I am struck by the transformative power of technology in the classroom. As a new educator, I have experienced the challenges of effectively introducing technology in the classroom. However, through the various activities throughout this course, I have come to realize the immense potential of technology to engage, inspire, and empower students, provided it is utilized effectively.
One of the most significant takeaways for me has been the importance of intentional technology integration. I have learned that technology should not be used for its own sake, but rather to support specific learning objectives and outcomes. This has helped me to approach technology integration with a more critical and thoughtful mindset.
The course has also introduced me to a wide range of educational technologies, from learning management systems to multimedia tools and online resources. I was educated on effectively creating technological tools such as: interactive PowerPoints, digital stories, podcasts, online quizzes, online classroom (Google Classroom), WebQuest, and online rubric generators. I have been impressed by the versatility and adaptability of these tools, and I am excited to explore their potential in my own teaching practice.
This educational technology course has also helped me to see the relevance of following the 4 Strands under the MOEYI ICT Integration in the National Standards Curriculum (NSC), in conjunction with the ISTE Standards for the purposeful use of technology in schools. In this age, the use of modern technology does not come without its unique ethical, social and legal risks. Through this course, I have been able to expound my knowledge on the human, ethical, social, cultural and legal issues and implications surrounding the use of technology and how to promote online safety and ethical behaviour. I have seen the importance of setting the example in this regard by using technology, especially social media, responsibly and positively.
Perhaps most importantly, this course has helped me to see technology as a tool for student-centered learning. As pointed out by the ISTE Standards, students should be allowed to use technology to communicate their ideas and information, and work collaboratively to support individual needs and contribute to the learning of others. I have have seen areas where technology can be used to provide opportunities for leadership, to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning. Through this course, I have been able to set the example in working collaboratively, by dedicating time to collaborate with fellow colleagues to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. I have come to realize that technology can be used to support student autonomy, agency, and creativity, and to promote deeper learning and understanding.
As I move forward, I am committed to continuing my journey as an educator. I plan to explore new technologies and innovative approaches, and to share my knowledge and expertise with colleagues and students. I am excited to see the impact that technology can have on teaching and learning, and I am eager to be a part of this transformative journey.
