My Educational Technology Journey (2024)

As I reflect on my journey through this educational technology course, I am struck by the transformative power of technology in the classroom. As a new educator, I have experienced the challenges of effectively introducing technology in the classroom. However, through the various activities throughout this course, I have come to realize the immense potential of technology to engage, inspire, and empower students, provided it is utilized effectively. One of the most significant takeaways for me has been the importance of intentional technology integration. I have learned that technology should not be used for its own sake, but rather to support specific learning objectives and outcomes. This has helped me to approach technology integration with a more critical and thoughtful mindset. In this digital age, technology has been integrated in many aspects of life. Technology plays a prominent role in our entertainment, communication, shopping experience, health care systems and other areas. However, the integration of technology in the educational system seems to be lacking, especially in Jamaica. It is very important that technology be utilized to enhance teaching. Good teaching with technology enables students to communicate effectively and work collaboratively, to design and produce creative products to demonstrate their learning, to be able to research and use critical thinking skills, and to practice good digital citizenship. A good teacher is able to use technology skillfully to facilitate the exchange of knowledge in the classroom, and to make learning exciting and rewarding.
